The Professor

Nefertiti A. Walker, PhD focuses her research on examining inclusion and exclusion, specifically as it pertains to women in the sports workplace. She researches all facets of sport organizational behavior, including human resource management, staffing inequities, diversity, institutionalization, organizational culture, and power dynamics.

Dr. Walker has achieved double digits in both publications and presentations. Her research has been featured in several publications including the leader in sport management research, Journal of Sport Management. Her national and international presentations are numerous having taken place all across the United States, Canada and Brazil. Additionally, Dr. Walker has enjoyed several media mentions, ranging from TIME Sports to espnW.

Throughout her career, Dr. Walker has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses, doctoral seminars, served on honor student thesis committees, overseen independent studies and has advised both doctoral and undergraduate students. She has taught graduate courses in Sport Policy and Organizational Behavior and Development and undergraduate courses in Introduction to Sport Management and Sport Policy at University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Internationally, Dr. Walker serves (2013-2015) on the Diversity Committee for the North American Society for Sport Management. She was also the Vice President for Inclusion and Social Justice for the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports from 2012- 2014. Locally, she serves as the Color Commentator/Analyst for CBS3 Television Network and UMass Women’s Basketball team.
